Clémence Lumnor is a contemporary painter based in Normandy, France, born in Malaysia. Working primarily with acrylic on linen and cotton, her practice explores the subtle interplay between observation and emotion.

She is recognised for her expressive brushwork and luminous, vibrant palette, which draw on the sensibilities of Impressionism while asserting a distinctly contemporary and introspective voice. Her work unfolds through an ongoing dialogue between perception, feeling, and the natural world, resulting in paintings that are sensorial, atmospheric, and quietly contemplative.

Lumnor’s earlier works focus on landscapes shaped by wind, water, and sand—meditations on nature’s fleeting rhythms and the subtle transformations that occur in moments of transition. In her more recent series, she expands her focus to human and animal subjects, inviting viewers into a space of introspection and emotional attunement. Through her singular painterly language, she encourages a slow, attentive way of looking—one that listens not only to what is seen, but also to what is felt.

Art accompanied her throughout childhood. Painting felt instinctive, like a language she already knew. However, in the country where she was born and raised, social support for artists was limited, and pursuing a career in fine arts felt uncertain and risky. She chose a more stable path, keeping art private—something held in reserve, for later.

As life grew busier, studies, work, and repeated moves between countries gradually pushed painting into the background. It was only after settling in Normandy, near Giverny, that this distance began to close. Living in a place shaped by Claude Monet’s attention to light and time prompted a quiet return to a practice she had never truly left behind.

For Lumnor, painting is not driven by ambition, but by listening—a way of returning to herself.

Au fil des années, les études, le travail et les déplacements entre plusieurs pays ont progressivement relégué la peinture à l’arrière-plan. Ce n’est qu’après son installation en Normandie, près de Giverny, que cette distance a commencé à s’estomper. Vivre dans un lieu profondément marqué par l’attention de Claude Monet à la lumière et au temps a favorisé un retour discret vers une pratique qu’elle n’avait jamais réellement abandonnée.

Aujourd’hui, pour Clémence Lumnor, peindre n’est pas une question d’ambition, mais un acte d’écoute — une manière de revenir à elle-même.
